Mslexia Writing Competitions 2013

Published by

pamphlet13Mslexia has now launched two writing competitions for poets, and one for novelists. The poetry competitions cater to poets of all levels and backgrounds; the Women’s Poetry Competition for individual poems has a £2,000 first prize and is judged by Kathleen Jamie. For those poets with a small collection, the Women’s Pamphlet Competition is for collections of 18-20 poems of 20-24 pages. The first prize is publication of the pamphlet by Seren Books. Both competitions have a deadline of 17 June, so there’s plenty of time for people to get their entries together.

Mslexia has also just launched their 2013 Women’s Novel Competition, for full-length adult novels by previously unpublished women novelists. The first prize is £5,000, and the judging panel is made up of three high profile judges: BBC arts journalist Kirsty Lang, award-winning novelist Val McDermid and literary agent Charlotte Robertson. The winner of Mslexia’s first adult novel competition in 2011, Rosie Garland, has just launched her winning novel, published by HarperCollins – so it really is a fantastic opportunity that opens doors beyond the initial prize, too. The lead-in time for this competition is a little longer, with a closing date of 23 September, but hopefully this gives people long enough to really hone their entries.
